Morpeth County Councillors met this week with Police and Crime Commissioner Kim McGuinness and the local PCSO team. Cllrs John Beynon, David Bawn and Richard Wearmouth visited the Avenues in Stobhill, before completing the visit at Morpeth’s Sanderson Arcade.
Cllr Beynon said: “My colleagues and I had a good catch up with the PCC discussing issues ranging from issues of anti-social behaviour, shop lifting through to concerns about drug dealing.
In particular shop lifting is becoming a significant issue for local traders and we heard from store security staff how organised gangs move from one town to another preying on our shops stealing thousands of pounds of stock from under pressure businesses.
We also talked about the perennial issue of boy racers and speeding. Some actions for both the PCC office and local councillors to take forwards on all the subjects covered were agreed and we look forward to working with the police team in the months to come.”
