Local Conservatives have been calling for an open audit of the proposed move of Northumberland County Council Headquartrers from Morpeth to Ashington and have been sucessful.
The new Morpeth flood defences have been put to the test twice in the last week following heavy rains. The Environment Agency twice closed the flood gate protecting High Stanners with river levels rising above 26m at their peak. The dam protecting Morpeth was also put in to use with fire crews out at High Stanners and Middle Greens to pump standing water from roads into the river.
Following Northumberland Labour's decision to cancel a full council debate on the £40,000,000 Council HQ move from Morpeth to Ashington, Leader of the Conservative Group, Peter Jackson, has written an open letter to the Chief Executive of the Council, calling for a full external audit.
